| AP newswire release, 9:46, February 26, 2006.
at 9:43 pm CST, February 25, 2006, xanga was pronounced dead. its health had been rapidly declining since the inception of more interactive and fun web alternatives that provided easy access to funny videos, pictures, interactive chatting sessions, and more. naming them here would be an insult to the legacy left by a great and influential monument to web logging. xanga was influential in coining the term "blogging" and made this new phenomenon available to literally hundreds of people.

| the new issue of relevant magazine has answers to some of the most important questions facing the church. its the best thing i've read in awhile. do yourself a favor, and at least go to barnes and noble, read that article, then if you don't want to buy the magazine, put it back on the shelf and walk out.
i'll be writing reviews again soon for decapolis.com. it will be good to get back in touch with some new music via risk-free sampling.

| i read this piece in newsweek that got me thinking. the bible says that we are like orphans of God, adopted into a spiritual family making us sons of God.
in a similar manner, Christ was an orphan of man, born into a biological family that was only partly his, adopted into our family of humanity making him, the divine, the Son of Man.
Newsweek's piece ads a little detail to the context of the situation into which Christ was born. I wonder if Jesus ever got teased, or was looked on by his extended family as a sort of bastard child, an outcast, an orphan to relate to those in simliar circumstances.
I also wonder how much of Jesus upbringing was because of his virtuous parents or because of his oneness with the Father and Spirit. Was there any nurture or was it all nature?
"sometime around the beginning of the common era, a nice jewish girl comes to her fiance with a problem. She is pregnant; he is not the father. The groom-to-be is understandably enraged. In his world, almost nothing brings more shame on a man and his family than a broken promise of virginity. her explanation, that the baby was conceived by God, must have sounded implausible, desperate, even insane. On reflection, though, the man who is profoundly decent - "righteous," as the story goes - decides that he cannot bear to inflict upon the girl the rare (but wholly legal) punishment for such crimes, which is stoning. And so he resolves to hand the matter in his own way. He will "divorce her quietly."
"If the story ended there, it would be an ordinary drama about a family in crisis, one familiar in many times and many places. but this story was only beginning. The righteous man, Joseph, goes to sleep and receives a visit from an angel. "Joseph, son of David," the angel says, "do not be afraid to take Mary home as your wife, because what is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit. She will give birth to a son and you are to give him the name Jesus for he will save his people from their sings." Like all good Jews who had received visit from God or angels before him - Abraham, Moses - Joseph does as he is told. The baby is born in Bethlehem and his parents name him Jesus."
I'm glad Joseph didn't have his wife stoned.

| so over the past month, i've been coordinating an event for the group "pulse". i contacted a local shelter and set up a night for our group to volunteer by brining/cooking/serving a meal, and then watching kids afterwards while the adults did some training.
overall it went well, volunteers showed up and were helpful, the people who run freedom house are awesome and have great hearts.
we were told by the shelter to prepare for about 40 people, but only 10 people showed up. i was a bit disappointed, because there were as many volunteers as there were people to serve and there was tons of food leftover.
i thought "we went through all this work, why didn't more people show up?" i thought "alot of people need a hand, we're here to give it and noone even takes advantage of our hard work." i thought of the ones who were there that didn't show any appreciation - "people can be so ungrateful".
all bad attitudes and ridiculous thought on my part, i know, but i believe there is something here to be learned of grace. i wonder if God thinks the same things about us holding out on his free gift? "i went to all this work by giving my son, why aren't more people showing up?" "everyone on the planet is fallen short and needs forgiveness, i'm here to give it and noone even takes advantage of it." "people can be so ungrateful."
i have alot to learn before my heart is in the right place in serving, i need to really rid myself of any feelings of superiority, that i'm "reaching down" to help these people out, and i also need to stop feeling the need to make a huge impact just so i can fill my christian ego.

| i guess i should probably make it clear that i didn't necessarily agree with my last post in some respects, i was trying to give the author's interpretation of the world around in hopes of giving the quotes some meaning. i think steinbeck correctly identified man's natural state, but as an aetheist, steinbeck never experienced or understood the victory and the identity change that comes with knowing christ.
the identity of man WITHOUT christ is a sinner who struggles to be righteous.
the identity of man WITH christ is a righteous one who struggles with sin.
Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come! i watched a few videos on relevantmagazine.com. norma jean's video for "blueprints for blackhomes" is stellar. sufjan's christmas video reminds me of school house rock, i wonder if he has those kinds of connections to get them to make a music video for him?
